An intimate Potrait of Nashville's Newest Star
Iv'e just had the most interesting phone interview with an up and coming star that Iv'e ever had. Joel David Suttles of Joel David and Lonesome Fugitive honored me with a complete hour of the most candid answers one could ever ask for. I wish I could include the entire conversation in this piece, but make sure to catch the whole thing in a three part series next week in the entertainment section.
For time purposes I will relate to myself as mcn and Joel David as JD. The following is the first in the series. I hope you enjoy it.
mcn-so, jd it looks like after all these years your dreams are about to be realized.
jd-well, caleb, i wouldn't say that all of my dreams are coming true, but i'd say about half of them are.
mcn-half? what on earth more could you ask for?
jd- well, world piece would be nice, but that's still not my biggest dream.that would be the one where my ex-wife and kids came back home to me.
mcn-wow, didn't even know you were married.
jd-yep. about seven years, i guess.i married a great young lady and she gave me the three most beautiful children a man could ask for.
mcn-what happened?
jd-life happened. we were young and i was real inmature and depended on everyone else to take care of my family.my ex was a great mom and a terrific wife, but i just couldn't stay at home. must've been the suttles gene in me.
mcn-are you still in contact with them?
jd-not much. she got re-married to a super guy and i just didn't fit in anyone's life anymore. plus that gave me an excuse to travel the world and see the wonders of others. but i'll tell you this, there has not been a day in twelve years that i haven't thought of all of them and miss them. i love them very much.
mcn-even the ex?
jd-yeah-every song i ever sing has a piece of her in it. i love her as much today as i did the first time i saw her in math class in 10th grade. but she moved on and left me with nothing but the insperation to write these songs.
mcn-speaking of songs, i hear you and david wallace have collaberated for twelve more hits.
jd-yeah, we have at least six number ones in the bunch-we just need to get the label to release them.
mcn-how's the shift to columbia?
jd-they've been really great to us and i cant wait to get going full throttle with them.
mcn-tomorrow we will have david on the line with us, any smut you can tell us about him?
jd-the kid is a genious and i love him like a brother. we have such a good time together and people see that. they really dig us together.
mcn-well jd i guess we will end this segment but we will pick back up tomorrow. think we can get more indepth with the music?
jd-of course. what else is there? thanks for all you guys are doing for us it really means alot.
mcn-it's our pleasure trust me.
And that is that. Wonder how many more surprises they have in store for us.
